On December 17, 2013, Frank Darabont ("Darabont"), Ferenc, Inc., Darkwoods Productions, Inc., and Creative Artists Agency, LLC (together, the "2013 Plaintiffs"), filed a complaint in New York Supreme Court in connection with Darabont's rendering services as a writer, director and producer of the television series entitled The Walking Dead and the agreement between the parties related thereto.

I'm not giving investment advice here, just trying to add some information to show that, according to what it's telling regulators, investors, and other stakeholders, AMC does not appear to be poised to crash and burn anytime in the foreseeable future.īelow is from Note 13, the "Legal Matters" portion of "Commitments and Contingencies" for an update on the Darabont and other lawsuits (not much new). In a nutshell, AMC enjoys a strong cash position, its debt has decreased, and it's been buying back some shares, which is not uncommon for companies in strong cash positions. Net revenue from distribution far exceeds advertising net revenue.

Revenues have upticked slightly for the year over year/quarter over quarter (9 months and 3 months). The financial statements are the first reports in the document, but I'd recommend looking at Note 18, Segment Information, beginning on page 21. Rather than discuss it, I'm attaching a link. Without TWD it's a channel that nobody cares about and nobody will watch.ĪMC is doing quite well according to the 10-Q () it filed with the SEC. They've put themselves in this position but that is where they are. I think there is a good chance of AMC ending before TWD does and then TWD will end because of that.Īt the end of the day, TWD is all AMC has keeping them relevant. So yeah, I'm not sure TWD is going to end any time soon. Now AMC is going to try this with even more projects which just presents even more chances of it all blowing up in their faces. They already have to live in another shows shadow and every time that show fucks up you have to pay for it too. No matter how much FTWD had improved (before Erickson left) it was never going to win because of what Gimple was doing to the main show and the audience was taking it out on everything.

Fear The Walking Dead made The Walking Dead seem less special because now there is almost always a Walking Dead on TV and Walking Dead hurt FTWD every time it makes a dumb decision. I think we can just see how that has gone with both Fear and TWD. This is way too much overexposure and it's going to hurt everything and if this experiment fails it's not going to be good because they are putting so much money in to it. Now they are talking about MORE spinoffs and MOVIES. Let's face it, the show isn't what it once was and yet they are still putting all of their eggs in one basket.

What I think is going to happen is AMC is just going to implode and run out of money and that'll kill the network. If that show is able to stay on TV with the ratings it gets then I don't think there is much of a problem with TWD right now. I also wouldn't start thinking about Walking Dead's future until we see what happens with Fear The Walking Dead. Walking Dead is only one show and it has the ratings that 5 or 6 of the lesser AMC shows has merged together. Walking Dead still has massive ratings if you put it up against most of the other shows. I hear it's dirt cheap to film here in Canada so I could see them moving before ever canceling. Hell, they'd even change the location if they had to if where they were filming was starting to cost a lot. But Walking Dead costs a lot of money to make too, and given the viewer trends, the bean counters might be getting a little nervous about cummitting so much money to something that might no longer a sure thing. It's true but before AMC would ever cancel it for that reason they'd just start gutting the budget and killing off long time characters to save money.
